The CBCT Scan
Seated comfortably, the imaging machine slowly rotates around your entire head. In about 40 seconds, the CBCT scan captures over 150-200 images taken and configured into a single 3D picture for our dental professional to view. It is quick and entirely painless.
Our dental professional may recommend you get a CBCT scan for the following reasons:
- Tooth decay
- Periodontal Infections
- Tooth root or dental pulp
- Bone loss
- Nerves and soft tissues
- Facial fractures or abnormal growth
- Signs of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) or other jaw problems
- Other irregularities
The 3D picture will be used as part of the planning step for your dental treatment. The CBCT scan will provide us with much-needed detailed information about your oral condition.
The Benefits
- Precision image quality
- Panoptic information about your oral health
- Fast and comfortable
- A low dose of radiation
- Allows dental professionals to evaluate the bone structure, nerve pathways and surrounding soft tissues.
CBCT is short for cone-beam computed tomography, and it is a 3D imaging technology.
With such details, our dental professionals will have the necessary information to establish their approach even before they begin the procedure. Still, it also allows them to identify possible complications during the treatment period, enabling them to take the necessary steps to avoid or minimise complications.
During the scan, the dental professional may request that you rest your head against part of the machine and gently use stabilisers in or around your ears to hold your head in place. This is to ensure that the images taken are clear.
CBCT scans use very low radiation levels, which is much less than the traditional CT scanners, which are already considered very safe for you.
